Santa Rosa Parks & Rec Gardening Classes with Wendy Krupnick

Gardening promotes lifelong learning, both practical and creative…and it’s fun too! Santa Rosa Recreation, Parks and Community Services offer a variety of garden related classes and workshops with subject matter varying from selecting, planning and remodeling a garden to seasonal water conservation workshops or bonsai garden techniques. 

The following edible gardening classes are taught by Santa Rosian Wendy Krupnick who has been growing vegetables for over 30 years. She was senior horticultural advisor for Shepherd’s Garden Seed Company, has worked on several organic farms and garden projects, teaches Master Gardener vegetable classes, and coordinates the market garden at SRJC’s Shone Farm.

Grow Your Own; Vegetables, Herbs And Fruit In The Home Garden

Food security starts at home! Save money, gas and eat more vegetables and fruit!

Whether you are just starting to grow vegetables, fruit and/or herbs, or have planted before and not been happy with the results, this class will provide the information needed to have a successful gardening season. We will cover the basics of organic gardening including site selection, soil fertility, seeds and transplants, planning the garden season and pest and disease strategies. Designing gardens to use space efficiently so you can enjoy the process as well as the fruits of your labors will be covered as well. Take home a planting calendar and resource list for this area.

Vegetable Gardening Techniques

Come to Sunflower Community Garden for hands-on instruction in good gardening techniques. Learn how to start your own seedlings in containers and have success with seeding directly in the garden. See different ways of creating vegetable beds and learn effective weeding and irrigation methods. This workshop will offer demonstrations as well as opportunities to try different methods of performing basic garden tasks.

 Please bring drinking water, a hat and other clothing for outdoors work.

 

Summer In The Edible Garden: Caring For Your Fruit And Vegetables

Learn the keys of summer garden care which will lead to successful harvests and satisfied gardeners! Energy and enthusiasm for planting the garden can be high, and with good systems for on-going care, you can keep gardening fun while enriching your understanding of the garden ecosystem. This class will include strategies for irrigation, crop fertility, pest, disease and weed control, as well as information on training and pruning, harvesting, food preservation, and seed saving.
