OAEC Biodiversity Plant Sale and Garden Tours – April, May and August

A big fan of the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, I highly recommend their plant sales and tours. Since the 80 acre non-profit center is not generally open to the pulic, these fundraising sales (and their classes) are a wonderful opportunities to visit this magical place. Be sure to arrive early; the free tours may fill up fast. Also, take advantage of the website plant listings noted below. Given the large volume of amazing plants available , making a list ahead of time will make your visit much more enjoyable.

OAEC Plant Sales

We boast an especially comprehensive selection of California Certified Organic seedlings — all grown in our nursery, many from seed collected from our gardens. We have hundreds of our favorite open-pollinated vegetable, flower and herb heirlooms — the tastiest, most beautiful, most interesting and rare, and most regionally appropriate varieties. We will feature many of our “signature” plants — food crops and ornamentals that have been grown here for years and have become identified with our Mother Garden.

Spring: Saturday April 10th – Sunday April 11th, 9AM – 5 PM

At our Spring Plant Sale we’ll be selling hundreds of open-pollinated, heirloom and rare varieties – all California Certified Organic – many started from our own seed collection. All have been trialed, tasted, and savored for years in our demonstration gardens and kitchen. This sale features early Spring crops such as lettuces and greens, peas, brassicas, chards, onions, leeks, flowers, and herbs. This is a free event with Garden Tours at 11 am and 1 pm.

Fall: Saturday August 21- Sunday August 22, 9AM – 5 PM

One of the great joys of living in Northern California is that we can garden all year round, creating fall and winter gardens that rival the beauty, diversity and productivity of summer gardens. This is the time to put fall and winter seedlings into the ground while the soil is still warm! Choose from hundreds of varieties of heirloom brassicas, lettuces, salad greens, chards, leeks, and herbs as well as old-fashioned annual flowers. We’ll have lots of ornamental and edible perennials too. This is a free event with Garden Tours at 11 AM and 1 PM.
